fabricated plenum with MAF

I posted this in the TPI and swap section, but didn't get anything useful.
I have been considering doing a Pontiac 455 swap into my 89 GTA. I did a search and could not find any info on anybody using a TPI. Is there any reason that I could not use this intake http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_..._pontiac.shtml
with a fabricated plenum and retain my TPI? Obviously the PROM would have to be reprogrammed. Is the MAF TPI able to flow enough to feed a mild 455? Is there a way to retain the Chevy HEI for the signal to the CPU or can soemthing else be rigged? Using the existing TPI throttle body and ECM will save money and I think it should eliminate hood clearance issues.

There is a guy in diy_prom with a 455 powered car, running a '730 ecm (speed density). I don't see why you couldn't do it with MAF. This is more of a diy prom post, so I'm moving it there.

Re: fabricated plenum with MAF

If you're looking at 400hp or more, you'll probably really want to convert to speed density. It's not hard, they say (I've never converted a MAF to SD, though).

I've converted a mallory unilite (iirc) non-computer controlled distributor, to computer controlled (for an old straight six), by wiring in a gm ignition module. If you can get a distributor with an 8x signal (VR type, I think), it can be done (but I'd keep looking for computer controlled from the start).

Stock pontiac HEI pickup and a 7 or 8 pin TPI module on the firewall.
The rest is just making it all bolt together and then tuning it.
Check out the megasquirt site for ignition info.

the TPI upper intake will not mate to that edelbrock intake manifold in any way. that looks like a throttle body-type injection manifold. edelbrock probably makes EFI conversion kits that go with that intake
