Laptop can't connect to ALDL port...SES light stays on!?!?
With a new motor and a chip burned (3 chips) by a fellow member to allow me to at least start the car I find that my laptop won't connect to the cars computer. I have the USB ALDL cable and I sent one back thinking it may have been bad but they said it checked out fine and sent a new on anyway. My computer recognizes the serial converter just fine.
I tried connecting via TunerPro and also through HyperTerminal with no results.
Also, my SES light stays on constantly when the key is in the ON position as well. I read in another thread these may mean a non responding computer?!? I had the car started prior to the rebuild with the same exact problem.
Any ideas here??? I did a good amount of wire lengthing to clean up the bay as well as added an MSD box and moved the battery to the rear.

I had that problem a couple times with TP. I recommend two things: check that you have the correct (and a good) data stream definition file and check your ALDL setup on TP on the laptop. The settings are different for the USB vs serial "Tools" - "Preferences".
Check the post about solid SES light, Chip isn't even working...
Good luck

I'm not getting anything on HyperTerminal either (but I don' know if I'm setting it up correctly) and I turned my kill switch off erasing any codes. BUT, last time the motor was started I didn't have any codes. THe 305 ran too well to have a bad comp but I guess over the car sitting something could have happened. I read the thread about the solid SES light...
I'm just going to carb to see if all my problems really are in the EFI or if I have shortblock issues. This has been two headaches after two others.

BTW...I removed my adapter and replaced it with the stock 305 chip only to have the SES light continue to stay on.
