EBL + PROMinator PRO Compatibility Issues
It seems that the PROMinator PRO's ability to re-program the data contents "on-the-fly" is incompatible while running the WhatsUp program.
I tried flashing the ROM while the car was idling -- with WhatsUp running as well as closed, and found that errors only occur while the WhatsUp program is running.
When I flash the ROM while WhatsUp is open I get a write failure message, verification errors, followed by the ecm going into "limp-home" mode from which it never recovers, rpm's fall very low and a few seconds later the car stalls.
I am using an older laptop (P2 450mhz Dell Latitude), with an RS232 adapter for the EBL input and writing with the parallel port.
Anyone else have this setup ? Having the same problem ? Or not ? Maybe its time for a new laptop . . . .

Re: EBL + PROMinator PRO Compatibility Issues
I don't currently have a Prominator here, when I do I will definately try this.
As far as the issue, the EBL/ECM does not have a clue whether the WUD is up and running or not. So, in this case I would start with Windows (anyone surprised?).
With the WUD running, select a non-existent com port. This will cause the com port to be closed from the WUD side. You'll get an error about not being able to open the port, which in this case is good.
Then see if you can update the Prominator.
Would the RS232 adaptor be a USB to serial cable?
RBob.

Good idea. . .changing the COM port to any port other than the ebl comm port (detected as existent or not) lets me update the Prominator "on-the-fly" without error.
and Yes, correct again, the RS232 adaptor is a USB to serial adaptor.
