Need Help With Reading the ECM
Hello,
Here's my situation. I have an 82 Trans Am, a 90 Formula(I know the ecm is 01227730), and a 91 GTA. I want to start to read the sensor values; one step closer to tuning. I have an aldl USB cable from aldlcable.com; tunerpro to read the 90/91, and Winaldl for the 82.
I can't get the software to read the ecm on any of the cars. I don't have a strong knowledge of what I’m doing. I believe the cable software is installed correctly, as I checked with the company over the phone to see if it was.
My main questions are-
Do I need to use the resistor on the cable for the 82 LG4?
What do I do to check if the software is reading the ecm?
Is there a link for which cars came with which ecm number? I'm checking on gmpartsdirect.com right now.
This post said WinALDL does not support the 82 LG4, but most values are correct. Does anyone have more info about this?

I apologize if these questions are easily answered somewhere I have not yet read.

Re: Need Help With Reading the ECM
I can not answer the LG4 question as I don't use the Winaldl at all . I have an autoprom from Moates.net. It plugs directly into the ALDL port of of your car. I you buy all the appropriate adapters and ribbon cable you can emulate and I have emulated a 1227730 ECM with no problems what so ever using tuner pro RT. Another Step you could try is using DataMaster to read some of the sensor values. Neither will read all the sensors values. Yes the IAT, CTS, TPS, MAP and a couple more but that is about it. But currently I am having a problem as the Autoprom and Tuner Pro doesn't work correctly on my ecm the 1227749 with $58 mask. I know a future program scannerpro is being developed to correct this. I hope that has been some help.
