Quick question about WideBand O2 sensors
im a little confused on what exactly you are supposed to do with them. after you have the tune finished on your car with the wideband, are you supposed to keep it in installed to control the ecu or do you take it out and let the stock narrowband o2 control the ecu? using moates apu1 and TunerPro RT AUJP 8D. combo in sig. thanks.

Re: Quick question about WideBand O2 sensors
Narrow band O2 sensors only operate in a small range of AFR around 14.7 (for fuel economy and emissions). WBO2 sensors operate at a much wider range of AFRs for people that don't necessarily care if they run an AFR of 14.7. Maximum hp/torque is obtained at lower AFRs. If you tune your engine with a WBO2 for 14.7 then after tuning you can go back to the NBO2 sensor. If you tune for an AFR of 12.5 going back to the NBO2 wouldn't make sense because the NBO2 won't be accurate.
WBO2 sensors (in general) do not control the computer (unless you set it up that way). Most people use their WBO2 in "open loop." In other words there's no feeback to the computer. The "feedback" is the AFR display that you buy with your WBO2 and observe while driving (or if it records data you look at it later).

Re: Quick question about WideBand O2 sensors
good info.... i was planning on eliminated closed loop and run in open loop 100% of the time, so wouldnt open loop not even look for the o2 sensor, and only run off the fuel maps in the bin? the reason im asking is because i know WB02's are not exactly the cheapest thing to buy, and i have a few cars that i want to use it on, i dont want to buy one for every car. i want to use it for tuning purposes only then remove it afterwards.

Re: Quick question about WideBand O2 sensors
Mine will be staying in. The NB function of the WB is controlling my fueling. I'm using the WB function to see what's going on and changing things accordingly since the ECM can't compensate for what i've done. New sensors aren't really that expensive anymore.

Re: Quick question about WideBand O2 sensors
ok, i've been doing alot more reading about this. i definately want to have the wideband hooked up to read through the aldl on tunerpro. to do this i believe i have to have the LM-1, the only documentation i can find on how to do this is here......
http://www.moates.net/zips/wideband_...nerpro_lm1.pdf
is it possible to just buy the sensor by itself and read it through the aldl, or is it neccisary to get the LM-1 kit for this? those kits are pretty expensive.
would it be best to tune it to run in open loop all the time, or should i try to tune it with closed loop also.

Re: Quick question about WideBand O2 sensors
You need the kit, to control the sensor itself. You can use the LC-1, as a cheaper alternative, it doesn't have a gauge, but you don't need that when you are datalogging througha laptop. You can add a gauge if you like anyway, or use one of the analog outputs to your NB gauge as a quick reference for approximate AFR, to keep an eye on, while tuning.
I plan to get the LC-1 myself.
Once the bin is fully tuned, you can remove the WB, and run on the NB. The NB is used only for part throttle cruise and accel looking for a 14.7 AFR, in AE or above certain threshold the ECM goes into open loop anyway and runs off maps, also idle is open loop. So if you tuned for XX.X AFR, you will have that, even without the WB installed.

Re: Quick question about WideBand O2 sensors
I'm looking at both the LC-1 and the Zeitronix ZT-2. I'm leaning towards the ZT-2, although it cost more it has a higher sample rate, 74 samples/sec for the ZT-2 while the LC-1 is at 12 samples/sec. I think the higher sample rate will make it easier to tune in the AE mode. The ZT-2 also has the option of adding an EGT sensor.

Re: Quick question about WideBand O2 sensors
is the LC-1 basically the same product as the LM-1 but without the handheld meter device? i was looking at it on moates.net, and it seems like it only comes with the lambda cable and sensor, it doesnt say anything about the o2 bung, pc interface cable, or the cd-rom with software, is that included in the package, i found at the link below that it is included, but i dont see it on moates page, i would rather get it from him because i have other stuff to order from him too.

They are that way from Craig as well (all the extras in the package). At elast they were for all three of them I've gotten from him... LOL
