I have heard some laptops (maybe the OS?) can't do live data logging?
My car is running Tuner Pro R/T.

Tunerpro R/T is the real time datalogging software. with a proper cable and connection to the ALDL port, you should beable to datalog
the only laptops that cant do it are ones without usb ports to plug in the cable but i do believe you can get adapters for other ports on the computer.

YOu need to make sure that you have an old laptop that has at least 400gb I beleive. When I first started out I had to old of a laptop and it would not correclty run the usb card that I got nor would it run fast enough to keep up with the program for dataloging. I think that anything that is about 2000 of newer will have no problems.

Just as long as the laptop is somewhat fast and has USB you should be good to go. With the older laptops, it might be better to use the serial if it doesnt have USB. That will require the construction of a 2-transister cable. Not hard, but an extra step.
With the USB, the only issue I ran into was having to manually assign some settings so the USB would be within range for tunerpro to recognize it.
