2.8 MPFI '86 and emissions

Anyone have experience with these proms?
its an 86 camaro 2.8 mpfi 5spd

i would like to disable the smog pump so that i could remove it and also possibly disable the egr system, but leave intact

what are the first steps to working with this computer?

i don't have the vin # anymore as i don't have the car the motor came from anymore

Knowledge of the stock v6 ecm's is limited, your best bet is to convert to another ecm like I did. You can do some tuning to the stock ecm, but you won't have full control of it like you would with a '165 or '730. Here's a thread detailing the swap www.thirdgen.org/techboard/dfi-ecm/221968-1227302-1227165-730-749-a.html.

If you still want to mess with the stock stuff first step is to find out which ecm you have since both the 1226870 and the 1227302 were optioned for '86. Then get a copy of the correct xdf ($3A for the '302 and $1F for the '870) and a copy of what's on your eprom. You can disable the air pump by setting the min enable temp to 304* and disable the egr by setting the duty cycle tables to 0%. But if you plan on keeping the egr hooked up why not keep it active? It can improve your gas mileage and lowers cylinder temps when active.

1226870 or 1227302
is this printed on the eeprom chip itself?

what software and hardware do you recommend for working on this particular chip

not really into going to an aftermarket system yet, and yes, perhapse i'll just leave the egr stuff alone, def wanna ditch the smog pump though as its parasitic and the bearings are going in it..

is there a way to make this stock ecu read a wideband o2 sensor, any advantage?

The 122 numbers are ECM service numbers that will be on a label on the outside of the ECM.

Many people on this site use tunerpro or tunercat, I preffer tunerpro. The eprom burner you get depends on your budget and patience. If you're on a budget and have a lot of patience get a willems burner and UV eraser, if you have the cash get an emulator like the ostrich. You can hook a wideband up using a narrowband simulator, many wideband kits have it as a built in function. You almoast can't tune without one, so it's definately worth the investment. The LC-1 is a good WB and just $200.
