Hi,
Finally getting ready to start playing with APU1 Usb setup
and TunerPro RT registered software.
Running Pcformless,Alvins chip for my engine setup.
Car runs strong but has issues. Been trying e-mail him on
questions but no reply. Know he's (Swamped) so figure might
as well get into this now.
Tried to set it up in car other day to datalog and would not
connect. Pulled it all out and finally got the com port and baud rate in TPRT to play togeather with the laptop.

Hope someone with the same setup, APU1-TPRT-165 ecm
can help with some advise and questions I need help on.
TPRT latest version/APU1 usb latest model Horizontal switches with lastest firmware update.6Exfd mask.
Question?
How do I copy the chip thats in there now to a bin that
I can save and burn in case I screw the original while trying
to learn this stuff.

Get or make something like "HDR1" from Moates.
Plug the chip in and read the bin.

I have the HDR1 and Gp1 along with the ribbon cable
for on the fly tuning I guess.
Chips in the GP1.
Just thought I could get chip data or info thru the usb
ADLD cable to APU1 and thru Tuner pro program copy and
burn a new chip.
So I have to remove chip from ecm and do this on the
APU1.

Yea, just pull out the memcal and stick it on the HDR1 where the oem chip is at. Put the whole thing on the APU1 and using TP, read it out and save to file.
Might have to play with the "which end is up" game till you get it right.
Pretty easy (even for a noob)

 

be super careful pulling the chip out, if you just try to grab it with your fingers youll probably break the legs and possibly have your information stranded on the chip (i had that happen but managed to hotwire the broken prong)
i have the moates adapter piece and i pull the whole adapter out (wasnt smart enough to get a zif socket) and play with it outside the car

 

I have the adapter plugged into the ecm which is the
GP1. The chip is held in place by a spring loaded, with
an arm to release the chip, just like on the APU1.

When you say careful on chip removal from ecm you just
release handle and chip is loose.

Can't I just take the chip out of the ecm adapter and
put it on the APU1 and copy chip to file, then burn duplicate (but) pull comlete memcal with adapter and chip
on it and put in on HDR1, then set on APU1.(That was long
winded)

you use the hdr1 to read the bin off a stock memcal. if you are already using the gp1 you can just take the chip out of the gp1 put it directly into the apu1 and read it. you should go ahead and use the hdr1 and read the stock bin off the memcal while you are at it just to have.

Thats what I needed to know.
So your saying I should also pull the whole memcal
assembly out and put in on the hdr1 so I have the limp
home mode on file also?

Will do the chip first to have a backup in case of operator
malfunction

Going to try to datalog this afternoon on startup and idle
just to get started on looking at some info.
Idling at 750 when goes to CL and with duration I'm running want 900 to help with power brakes low vacumm
problem. Braking from under 3000 rpm with 3000 stall
converter

Bringing up idle will be first project

Finally got this 21st century hardware & software to work
and datalog startup and idle, road log next.
