using 27sf512 in place of 2732 in a 747 ecu...question

Okay i've modified the stock socket and stock chip holder from a 1227747 ecm to hold the 27sf512 chip. I've programmed the chip with the proper bin for my engine combo.

Looking at a chip adaptor from moates, they tie pins 1,2,26,27,28 all together. So I soliderd those pins together and was able to get it in the stock ecm socket with minor modification with a razor blade.

Can the chip be reprogrammed with those pins tied together? What exactly is happening when those pins are tied together. I know it has something to do with address ranges changing.

Although I cant completely answer you question about the soldering/chip pins, I dont think that you will beable to reburn a chip with the pins solderd together. What type of buner are you going to be using?? I would highly recommend the Moates chip adapter for your conversion. It will make life alot easier and you wont have to worry about destroying any chips. I use the burn1 with winaldl and the moates chip adapter with no problems. ITs a nice easy change with a Zif socket. Hope that this helps some. I think that with the chip pins soldered together you will not beable to read them correctly with a chip burner etc. IM sure someone else will pitch in though.

Re: using 27sf512 in place of 2732 in a 747 ecu...question

I am using the Willem Dual Power Universal, it has worked great for dozens of 27sf512 chips i've done for TPI, LT1's.

well before tieing the pins together i programmed with 0F000 offset, 4k file size.

I then soldiered the pins together. I then set up my eprom reader as if it was reading a 2732.

I hit read, saved it, and ran a compair with a hex editor it was identical. I also noticed that it saved it as a 4k file. I did not use an offset when reading the chip.

I don't think i'll be able to reprogram it the way it is..but at least in a pinch if someone needs a replacement prom, I can do this cheaply and easy.

I find it MUCH easier to use a 24 pin dip socket to make the needed daughter board change and then use a 28 pin dip socket and connect the appropriate pins together on it (the 28 dip socket). This will allow any 27sf512 to be used and reprogrammed without needing to perform any extra steps.
