so i did a lil searching and couldnt really get a good answer, so my problem is as follows, i have an 88 305 tbi as my name indicates, so what does the smaller removable chip in the ecm do?

when i pulled replaced the prom with a chip from tbichips.com, i noticed that there are 2 removable chips in the ecm the bigger one is the prom, but what is the smaller one for, i ask because i have 2, 1228063 ecms, and im going to be replacing both of theese ecm with another one from a 4.3 tbi, serv. 1228063, i know ill have to switch over my prom chip, but what does the other smaller chip do,

Re: a newb question about ecms and proms
The small chip is the CALPAK. It is the calibration for limp mode, which is what the ECM will use if the PROM goes bad (or is removed).
