TBI idle madness

Ok ever since I got this evil car some 5 years ago, it always had to warm up for a long time before the idle would go down.. sometimes when it was really cold if I tried to take off before it finished its warmup period it would shoot itself upto like 2200rpm idle and you would have to sit at a stop for about a minute so it would go back down.

ever since I put the T5 in a couple years ago, its done that crazy shooting the idle way up, almost everytime I try to pull away. Was a brand new VSS i put in this thing, it gives me a code 32 everytime I start the car until it gets moving and the idle gets itself down where its supposed to be at the code gos away.. and from what I seen from at least one service manual if this code happens while your not even moving it can be disregarded..

today I let it warm up for nearly 5 minutes, it was idling down at 650.. i decided to just peel out in the driveway and stop to see what would happen and sure enough it shot right up to about 2000.. i sat for almost 3 minutes and the idle wouldnt get below 1000 until I went up the road to the stop sign and sat there for another minute..
what the he!!

which part of the programming do I need to obliterate in this chip to get rid of this insanity????

Re: TBI idle madness

If the issue really did start with the swap to a T5 i would get a stock '8746 T5 BIN and start there.

AXKW is the latest 5-spd L03 BIN for the Camaro & Firebird's.

Code 32 is an EGR fault.

RBob.

Re: TBI idle madness

Oh, sorry, not 32 then (i fixed that!)
The VSS one! 24 maybe?

Well the SES is new but the basic problem isnt, its just gotten worse. But what can I modify to make this stop all together? High idle at startup is fine and dandy, but like I said even with the automatic it did this, of course with an auto you dont notice it quite as much, other then your using more brake pedal to stop (which is why its painfully obvious in the winter as your skidding your front tires and spinning your rears!)... that used to happen. Is mine broke or do all TBIs do this?

For some reason I seem to recall copying all the values out of the T5 bin and putting them into my original one, was some of the basic programming different?

Re: TBI idle madness

Heres a log showing the problem, its always done this to some degree. I guess I cant take off unless im in closed loop at all anymore. Though if I just put-put up to the next driveway or something the idle wont jump up.. If I had access to a chip burner atm I would try the newer bin as you suggest.

anyways in the log you can see its idling at 800 or so, I go up the street 3 houses away to the stop sign and its back to 1300..

I would really like to know how i can get rid of this code 24 too.. the computer and the speedo read the same (and it is correct), so I dont know where its finding a problem.
