My USB to Autoprom cable failed....
Good thing I was just doing chip-burning inside(since it was too crappy to go outside)....so I'm having connection problems with both my old Win98 Laptop that I use to play in the car; and also in my new Vista Laptop which ALWAYS hooks up quickly. This seemed odd; booted and rebooted several times...still couldn't hook up to Autoprom. Struck me as odd that both computers would do this....I was hoping it wasn't the actual Autoprom; I had a couple more USB-to-Autoprom cables(dont' know what they're "officially" called).....swapped, tested the other 2, it's all good. I threw the original one away....I was kinda surprise; haven't really abused it, nor used it that much. I'm just glad it didn't happen when I was trying to play with the car. Anyway, something to check if you can't hook up to your Autoprom.

By "USB to AutoProm cable" do you mean the USB cable? It's just a standard USB cable (the same kind used by just about every USB device with a full-size USB connector set). They have been known to go bad every now and then. Sometimes there are bad ones in a batch as well.
Glad you figured it out.

Yep, that's the one....I had a couple of extra ones that I've accumulated; a bit longer, but it latched right on. I woulda hated it if it was happening while I was trying to tune...it probably woulda sent me on a wild-goose chase.

Being an admitted DA I would still think that now days you could convert serial to usb with out a hitch.......but that's just me.........
I still at times have problems with my generic unit when using my ebl data logging. On the other hand my Moates converter never let me down. I need to figure out how to hook it up somehow to the ebl unit...............lol
Have a great holiday weekend guys..........DM

Re: My USB to Autoprom cable failed....
i had a USB cable die on me at work. during the day i had made the changes to the bin & after work i got in my car & erased the chip, i did a blank check, then burned the chip. guess when the cable quit. it took me almost half a tank of gas to drive 15 miles in limp home.
now when im data logging & burning chips regularly i make sure to keep an extra cable in the car.
i also keep a good working chip in my car too
