Secondary cooling fan

Wanted to get confirmation on something…

Pin D12 controls the secondary cooling fan? The schematic I have shows that the secondary cooing fan relay is switched by a stand-alone coolant temperature temperature switch and/or a secondary cooling fan request pin on the ECM- pin D12. My Painless harness isn't populated at D12 so I was going to add it in.

What I'm going to be doing is adding a two-speed Ford Taurus fan and I wanted ECM control of both speeds. The $8D code has on/off temps for a second fan and my schematic (from gmecm) has it shown as a valid I/O on the ECM.

Can anyone please confirm this?

Re: Secondary cooling fan

Hmmm... there may be a misprint on the gmecm schematic.

I just looked at my ECM harness and D12 is pre-populated with ground wire (black w/ white stripe)

I also got hold of a Haynes manual and it shows D2 as the secondary fan I/O. I guess I'll just have to put a temperature in the calibration and then hook up a test light to the terminal to see if that pin turns the light on.

Re: Secondary cooling fan

Didn't work. So it looks like both D2 and D12 are not correct. Anyone have any ideas??

Re: Secondary cooling fan

I think I saw something on the $6E in my search. I was more interested in the $8D, so I didn't really read it carefully. But I do remember the $6E being brought up

I searched on "secondary fan" and a bunch of good stuff came up. Give it a shot!

Re: Secondary cooling fan

Already did, but will give it another shot
Had seen something about a year ago on this board
but was not a priority at the time.

Thanks
