Spark timing for custom cam vs. L98 stock cam
I'm going the DIY method the best I can. Previously up to today I've gone ahead and tuned without a knock sensor on my car. You can see the specs in my sig but for this post my ECM is the stock 730 my car came with (L98). My cam specs are shown in the sig. The bin/xdf I'm using is for a $59 mask. I'm comparing the stock 8D spark table vs my 59 spark table. Would my cam necessarily want more or less time overall compared to the stock cam? I have installed a knock sensor tonight into the pass side head where the coolant/fan sensor was (car doesn't use that sensor) and have started plug reading. Overall my plugs do not look bad but have an appearance (own interperation) of being slightly too much timing.
I have posted my current timing table and the 8D timing table in an excel file for reference.
Input as always appreicated. FWIW, my VE tables and AFR across the board are very nice. The afr swings between 11.7 and 15.0 (off / on boost)

Re: Spark timing for custom cam vs. L98 stock cam
BUMP, I'm looking for some guidance here. I know the stock spark table but don't have a clue as to what my engine wants. When I say that I mean I've picked 2 pretty different spark maps and they both seem to act similiarly so I know something else has to be happening inside the engine. I'd rather not use my new powerplant as a learning curve for spark mapping.
SO, my question. Would my cam and head combination want a more agressive spark or a less agressive. My first inclination is less.
