new to tuniing -- help needed

Hey everyone -- new here and looking for some advice on getting started with tuning. I've done datalogs and a little tuning on lt1 impalas, so the concepts are not new to me, I'm just not as familiar w/ other systems. I've done quite a bit of reading on this site, but still need some advice on where to start. I'm picking up the vehicle sunday, and want to get started asap.

Here's what I've got (sorry -- technically not a 3rd gen, but this is one of the best boards I've found for this kind of stuff): I picked up an 89 s10 with a v-8 swap. It has a 350 in it, but with heads, intake, tbi, transmission (auto), etc from an 89 camaro rs w/ a 305. All of this is still running off the original 4.3 v-6 s10 computer -- no tuning done yet. I don't have the truck yet, so I can't confirm what ecm is in it, but from what I've read I'm thinking I may have to swap out the ecm to one more suitable and tunable for my setup before I start tuning and burning proms.

So here are my questions. If I were to swap ecm's, what would be the best one to use, or can I use what I have, and what definition file should I start with? I'd like to avoid too much work if and when I do an ecm swap (wiring harness, etc).

Thanks in advance for the help and all the great information already on the site.

The obvious choice would be a 7747. It's probably the most popular ECM for TBI. I've got a spare 8063 (same hardware as a 7747, w/ IAT and electric fan control etc.).
As for the definition file, Use 7747-mine.ecu, If you use a 7747 ECM.
