Corrupted bin upload with TunerPro and Prominator
Hi all,
With the current version of TunerPro RT, I've been trying to upload modified binaries into my Prominator using my laptop. This has worked fine but lately it hasn't been working correctly.
When you hit the upload icon, down the bottom of the TunerPro window you see a couple of progress bars, one for B0 and the other for B1. However instead of taking a few seconds for this to happen as normal, it's near instantaneous and neither of the progress bars move like they should. It also sets fault code 51 in the ECM and the cooling fan turns on.
For fun, I installed TunerPro RT on an older laptop running Windows 98 and uploading works as normal. With the laptop I had normally been using I used Windows 2000 and since this fault I've completely reinstalled the laptop with 2000 and then again when I tried XP and nothing helps.
Has anyone seen this problem before? I don't understand what could have changed on the newer laptop because I only ever use it with my car. Do you think my laptop's parallel port has died or is there a setting I need to change to make it all work again?

Re: Corrupted bin upload with TunerPro and Prominator
When my laptop died, I upgraded to XP from 98. There were no issues, only matching the port location to the prominator software. I use Prominator LPT 3, 3BCh and then match this number in the XP control panel, "classic view", system folder, hardware, device manager, ports, LPT 1, action, properties, resources, i/o range 03BC-03BF.
The only other past issue was setting the Mask ID Loc 08 in the 6E code to AA hex to disable the checksum. This keeps it out of Limp Mode and is not needed as the prominator does a check sum when loading from Laptop.
When I get a bad load/no load into the Prominator, I just repick the file and reload and it works fine, I am not sure why, it is rare and random.
When I switch the Prominator to a new bin "X" of 8, do a key off, wait till lite goes off, and key on. This makes the Prominator reset to the new location for sure.
If you don't have any luck with these settings, send me yours and I will try them on mine. I am running the IBM thinkpad t20.

Re: Corrupted bin upload with TunerPro and Prominator
have you tried using the uploading program that comes with it? I tried tp once and it didn't work so I always use the other one to upload. pandin...as for it nothing switching bins when you twist the ***, mine doesn't either, it used to then just stopped. the only thing I've found to work is to have the prominator software open on the laptop with the car running, click to the bin you want on the swtcher and then click the find prominator button on the laptop, after a click or 2, it will buck the car and switch to the bin I loaded there. it just randomly started doing that one day... even the key off restart doesn't swtich bins on mine.

Mine switches okay when driving/engine running, it just sometimes would try to load to the "0" bin and after trying about six times it would time out. Then you would have to close all six of the error screens and start over. The trouble was during the Prominator software down load to the ECM/Prominator, not getting the bin to the laptop.
I just hit file on the Prominator software screen, then highlite the bin I want, then hit action and write. It will verify, when all is good, I unplug the parallel cable and close the Prominator software. If I shut down the computer before unplugging the cable, it will garble the bin and go into limp mode.
The Prominator I have is the Pro version with the "on the fly tuning", since I have no copilot, I don't have a chance to use it.

Re: Corrupted bin upload with TunerPro and Prominator
You know, I'd never thought to use the Prominator software, completely forgot!
Using this to upload binaries worked without a problem, so I wonder why TunerPro change its mind about working? I tried TunerPro on a third laptop and that worked without any problems either. So odd how it used to work and now doesn't, but with the Prominator software it's OK.
I'd prefer to use TunerPro for uploading though just so I can use one software package and the Prominator software doesn't remember the last binary you were using in between uses. I wonder if Bill wouldn't mind putting that feature in...

It's the upload status bar that's at the bottom of the screen, it shows B0 and B1 from memory. Since I've been using TunerPro the upload button has always been up in the toolbar.

Re: Corrupted bin upload with TunerPro and Prominator
What exactly do you mean by upload button? I haven't seen any button in TP or TPRT that says anything about upload. Do you mean the bin save button?
The only way I have ever loaded a bin into the ECM is with the Prominator software.
This is just me wanting to learn something new or a better way to do something.

Re: Corrupted bin upload with TunerPro and Prominator
I "found" them on the laptop, don't have them on the desk PC copy of TunerPro because I have never used the Prominator there. They only show up after the Prominator is connected, I was starting the Prominator software then hooking up the ECM.
If you hook up the ECM then load TunerPro the arrows are shown.
I see the forest past the trees.
Thanks

Re: Corrupted bin upload with TunerPro and Prominator
The other morning I tried to load a bin change and the Prominator software couldn't find the Prominator. After verifying all the settings for the LPT, I decided to just try later.
Half way home it dawned on me to try again, because the car was warmer now, guess what, it worked fine. The Prominator or the computer doesn't like 30 F temperatures.
