EBL & LS series??
EBL & LS series??
Just wondering if anyone has looked into running an LS series engine with the EBL pcm?? I was thinking of swapping in a LQ4 and cam swap with the edelbrock intake and iginition controller. LQ4 is cheap and the intake isnt to bad either. Now I was just wondering if I could run batch fire with the EBL and still have it work with the MSD iginition controler?? Anyone got any thoughts?? Or I could just slap a carb on it, but I would prefer to stay injected etc. Thanks for any help!!

Re: EBL & LS series??
The only option would be to fabricate a 4-tooth crank trigger wheel for the LQ4 to give the TBI ECM the 4 pulse/rev reference signal that it currently sees from the distributer. I think the LS engines use a 24 tooth wheel.
Re: EBL & LS series??
So anyone got anythoughts on how to do this?? I would think that it would be a fairly cheap way to go to an LS engine without a complete re-wire or ecm swap. I guess i may have to resort to an aftermarket ecm or reuse and try to tune the stock ecm? Just looking for a way to make things easier!!

Another thought: it might also be possible to build a circuit to act as a frequency divider. Basically you would need to have a circuit that sends one pulse for every 8 pulses recieved (assuming a 24 tooth wheel). This would be 4 pulses/rev. With batch fire, the timing isnt as critical as all the injectors are firing at once.

Re: EBL & LS series??
I had to dig out a Car Craft... there are two different crank wheels on the LS/LQ series: 24 tooth and 58 tooth. The 24 tooth being on the older engines. Supposedly the color of the relucator tells which wheel is on the crank. '05/'06 is the MY dividing line dependent upon the application.
Unfortunately the 58 tooth wheel isn't evenly divisible by 4. Would need to use a PIC or such to properly divide it.
As Dimented posted you can divide down the 24 tooth wheel. Or, use a 4 tooth wheel on the front of the crank. Then use a standard ignition module to interface the pickup reluctor to the ECM.
Can then use an eDist to fire the coils. With that the timing control will be done by the ECM. Which would be better then a separate timing computer.
Lets see: 4-tooth wheel, reluctor pickup, GM igntion module, eDist, then stock smart coils. It'll work.
