Re: Anybody use this far a test bench?
It's a good starting point.
I'm using just a powered breadboard for my VSS and DRP generators. I built a box with a bunch of pots and lights to indicate things as well.
That should give some functionality for several things right off the bat.
Check out this thread for some schematics and info to operate the VSS signal using optical input (square wave) or the magnetic (sine wave)

You'll need a module to get the DRPs to work or there is a "trick" posted to get around that but never tried it.
Good luck with the project.

Thanks for the good read
It appears that this is a better tool than first suspected. Reading the instruction manual now...

My neighbor was going to sell it in a yard sale a few months ago and said I could have it if I found a use...

I use a 12v, 1 amp wal-wart power supply that came from an old printer or something. My simulator is the megasquirt megastim unit. I think it was only $25. I then added two more 10K pots to it to simulate a few extra sensors. The only thing it is really missing is VSS and knock sensor. It has DRP, TPS, MAP, IAT, etc.

The kit is $45.
I know I can use the trainer for power and all the voltage sensors at the least. It also appears I can generate the waves needed to mimick a VSS, but I'm lost on the knock sensor workings.
Do I need VSS and KS for testing that an ECM is in working condition? I haven't had time to mess with it this weekend, but in the near future will get back with results.
I basically just want to be able to test a used ECM, and later maybe look at testing .bins etc.
