Need complete prom guidance from the willing

I have a 1987 iroc with a 383 tpi and the 165 prom. Its got a 2800-3000 stall converter, the 700 r4 and a 218/224 comp cam. I would like to know exactly what I need to be able to get it to run exceptionally well including where to get the hardware, how reliable, easy to use.... etc I have tunercat, and dont know exactly what to get to reburn the prom or what. I know there is the prominator and auto-prom but i dont know which is better or if there are alternatives to them.... Also if anyone has any experience with something similar to my set-up I would like to know exactly what mask to start with ie; 6e ARAP or AUJP or whatever..? I am getting very close to finishing the project and would like to start it up in june so any help would be greatly appreciated
ps. I have deleted egr a/c and air so i know i will have to remove some flaging code.

I don't burm proms I use an emulator.
You need to do more than turn off DTC for the EGR. There isn't a DTC for the A.I.R. system, but I think there's some programming that needs to change to compensate for the lack of air injection.

I tried the ARAP, but it didn't work for me, currently I'm using the AUJL stock '89/350 TPI/700r4/2.77diff bin modified to my needs.

Re: Need complete prom guidance from the willing

I'm new to tuning and programming, have been surfing and reading threads on this BBS for about 5 years, but just recently (in March) finally got an AutoProm.
It's very easy to use, the instructions are clear, and there's always the Help button at the top to assist you when you aren't sure what to do next.
Right now, I'm working on a 1993 Z/71 with a Vortec 350 with a ZZ4 cam in it, and the hair puller is a 1989 Trans Am GTA with a 350, Trick Flow Super 23 heads, LT4 HOT cam kit, Holley Stealth Ran, BBK 58mm throttle body, Hedman headers, etc.......my advice is to read, research, print out pertinent threads to keep in a notebook for reference when you do start tuning, then read some more on here. Even after 5 years, I'm still finding new things I missed before. If you have a problem with a tune, use the Search feature and I almost guarantee you will find a solution.
My Trans Am was surging really bad at idle, previous owner said he never could get it tuned out; took me a little time to research it, but tonight I finally got it tuned to a stable idle.....a bit rich, but no surge at all. I'm using the 1227165 ECM also, and tho most suggest the ARAP bin, I've stuck with the APYU 3516 bin the car came with. Many changes to the tune (thanks, Tony, you got it REALLY close on your tune), but when I compared the ARAP and APYU tunes, I really saw no benefit in changing.
Now if I can just get the hang of Speed Density in that Z/71.............
