Help with Multi-Function Lever, Cruise cable to short with Picts
Hey guys, just joined the forum and picked up my first Firebird. I currently have a 1991 Firebird base model with the V8 305 TBI. I have searched countless threads but none seem to address my issue. When I first purchased the car, the cruise control did work however the wiper mist part was broken at the base. I purchased a direct fit replacement Mult-Function lever (see attached picture).
I removed the old lever with a simple pull out and followed the old wiring down under the the floor kick panel. I eventually found the that it plugged into a white multi pin pigtail style connector with several empty pin bays. The cable from the old multi-function lever to where it was connected as several feet in length wrapped in black cover.
Well here is where I hit my roadblock. The replacement part pictured below only has a cable that is no more than 6 inches in length and not the same plug connection that is under the dash. I even tried pulling about a foot worth of cable out the steering column to see if the connector in the picture was on the wire there (it was not).
I have searched countless parts stores and all the replacement parts no matter the brand are the one pictured here with a short cord. The only ones I see that come attached with a cable long enough are for the earlier Firebird models with the blade style connector which would no fit my connection.
I am at a loss at this time as no matter the replacement part I look at it seems the wire does no match up with what is on my car. I would appreciate some guidance if anyone has had this. I will note that I tried the new lever to see if the wiper mist and all other features worked, which they all did.
Update added pictures of what my set up looks like
Thanks!
