Hatch motor problems! Help!

I finally got my 88 camaros hatch motor to move for the first time today after fixing a rats nest of wiring the previous owner added. After getting it to go all the way up, latch, and pull down, when I opened the trunk with my key the motor stayed all the way down. Now I can't close it because the part that catches is too low. My guess is it's the relay, but I'm not confident it's wired correctly even now, because there's no center console wiring for the hatch button. Any help would be great because it's supposed to rain soon and i can't close it! Thanks!

Re: Hatch motor problems! Help!

Did the motor not raise the latch all the way, or is the whole assembly just sitting too low in the adjustment track and need to be raised a bit?

You know, just in the interim, I might take out those top 2 screws from the rear panel just in case the latch gets stuck and you have to climb in from the inside to unlatch it. At least you'll be able to wriggle the rear cover out of place with those top screws missing.

When I first opened it with the key the motor kept the latch all the way down. After a bit of fiddling with it i found the black plastic piece that engages the motor and poked it with a flathead screwdriver and it seemed to just reset itself and now it's working fine

Not sure if it'll do it again, but with rain coming tomorrow once it latched and went down i decided I was done messing with it. Fingers crossed it starts behaving now.
