Is AFGS useful in tuning?
I am wondering if comparing max AFGS gm/sec before and after changes in the tune is a good way to see if the change helped.
If not, besides the gtech, dyno, and seat-of-the-pants is there a good way? Some other numbers in the datalog?
Last week I had the car dynoed and was pretty disappointed - 230 rwhp @ 4400 rpm for an 89 L98 TPI GTA with ZZ4 cam, modified Vortec heads, headers, AS&M runners, and bigger TB.

Re: Is AFGS useful in tuning?
As a test, I data-logged with my ebay open-element air filter, then with my stock air filter on my 89 GTA.
The max AFGS gm/sec = 192.2 @ 4775 RPM with the ebay intake and
202.8 @ 5146 with the stock one.
Is it a safe assumption the ebay intake is worse than stock? Is the AFGS a good indicator of how much power the car is making?
I am thinking as I tune I can use this number to see if I am improving. (I plan on tuning fuel / spark before I go back to the dyno)
Is this a good idea?
thanks in advance...

I dont know much about MAF tuning but wouldn't you need to re-tune the signal from the MAF after you change the intake tract?

Re: Is AFGS useful in tuning?
The engine airflow is directly related to power. So if you are holding WOT and the RPM is 5000, the aiflow value means that the engine is Y efficient.
Now make a change such as SA, or CAM, heads, porting, and so on.
Then go WOT and at 5000 RPM check the airflow. A greater airflow means that the engine should be making more power.
For testing need to read the airflow at the same TPS% and the same RPM.
Can graph this information to help with the comparisons.
RBob.
