memcal adapter

trying to get a tpi setup going and needing parts. wondering if i had a prom set up with a stock gm bin file on an adapter (lets say moates) would i still need an original memcal. i currently don't have one all i have is the ecm. thanks

Yes, you still need the whole memcal. The adapter bypasses the stock PROM, but the circuit board on the memcal is still used. It contains some basic functions such as limp mode, and I think ESC control on 90-92. Also, I'm almost positive that it needs to be the correct memcal - for example, on a 90-92 TPI ECM, you'd need a 90-92 TPI memcal, etc.
