Re: 305 TBI EPROM

If you have the ECM down, it is under the small cover that is held by two screws. There are pictures of the PROM and CALPAK in the stickys of the DFI & ECM board here.

If you don't have the ECM down, it is located under the dash on the passenger side. Stock is a silver box (can be painted black if a re-man). For an '88 you may need to remove some hardware to un-bolt it and drop it down.

Ok, I have the PROM out with the plastic holding piece still attached, How do i go about removing the chip from the holding piece without permanitly damaging it, What exactly do I do once I remove the PROM and CALPAK and how do I go about attaching it to the programmer? Do I need an adapter so I don't remove the plastic piece or what, Sorry I'm new to all this

Re: 305 TBI EPROM

I've read just about every sticky and nearly every article I could find, they don't really say anything about using the programmer, only what it is and why you need it. And the methods they tell you for attaching the chip are only for memcal. If I remove the chip from the plastic carrier can I attach a ZIF to it and still use an adapter easily?

Re: 305 TBI EPROM

My first and only "programmer" was Pocket Program 2. I beleive I saw it on Moates site. Simple to use and worked every time. Before you make a decision I would look over the differing options he offers on his site. I had issues with a ZIF that was not permanently installed. It was removable from the socket. Too often lost the connection. I would suggest a permanenty installed ZIF.

Re: 305 TBI EPROM

I've got it all working but the stock chip when I went to erase it and reprogram it, it wouldn't reprogram, I read about it and I guess PP3 is no good for 2732 chips and it programs them at the wrong volts, even if you set it to 2732A 21v. So I guess im waiting on a new chip in the mail and hopefully I can get it to program this time
