Is it possible?

Ok , here is the deal. I have a 91 350 tpi motor. I opened up the ecm the other day and saw this rectangular white plastic hypertech type box! Ok, so what I want to do is have a guy that I know burn me a new chip... He says that hypertech is crap and they only produce like one or two hp. So, he says that he can burn me a new chip that can produce 18 hp on a stock motor. He also told me that I would need to send him that hypertech chip , so he may burn me a chip or eprom or whatever the hell is going on ? Someone explain the differences to me please. Ok, but my questions are these:................What is the difference between a prom and a memcal. Isn't the memcal the white box that says hypertech on it? and I am assuming that a prom is that black box type chip thing with like 28 pins on it right? SO, basically can I just get rid of that white hypertech chip that I have and replace it with my oem one? or does the hypertech thing come with an adapter board with it's own eprom 28 pin chip , etc etc. ???

Re: Is it possible?

The hypertech is the adapter with the chip, sandwiched between the stock Memcal and the ECM.

You can remove the stock memcal ("blue box" if I remember correct) from the hypertech adapter and plug it back to the ECM, like stock.

Do some datalogs with the stock tune and the coustom tune, will give you an idea of whats going on.

Hypertech requires premium fuel, like 160° thermostat and lower fan turn on settings to minimize detonation. Other then runnig a little rough and krispy, I did not notice real power gains in a 5.7L 91 Z28, wenn I took it out it run much nicer.

Re: Is it possible?

Ok, I still don't get it. When I open up the ecm all I see is the hypertech module. A small, rectangle ,white box. It unlugs etc, etc. Ok, so are you telling me that when you buy the hypertech chip that what you get is a big green adapter board with an eprom on it and that hypertech ,white rectangular plug in type chip?
