prom burning for 87 el camino with ccc
hey guys. have some questions for burning proms for a 87 el camino. ive been burning chips for my 95 chevy truck for a few years now. it has the 7427 computer and tbi. i use the moates autoprom. a friend at work just built a 383 for his 87 el camino. he has all factory emmisions still on. it has stock 350 heads, (not sure which ones) edelbrock dual plane intake, comp roller 212,218 112 c/l cam, edelbrock 1 5/8 exhaust, 9.0 to 1 compression and stock carb. its running fine. he has used my wideband to verify fuel and he says everything is good with that. but im wondering how much power he is leaving on the table with the factory timing. what would he need for me to burn him a chip? just an adapter and some chips? i think from that era they had a zz3 conversion that came with a chip. is that file out there on the net and i could just use that file to burn for him? any input is appreciated. thanks

Jump over to Moates downloads. You will find what you want there. The Hack is $40. The Chip to use in that ECM is 2532A. It is a drop in. THere are a few bins at moates. You will find what you want and an xdf to modify it.
BTW any L69 from 1987 or 1988 already has a very good chip. That or the ZZ4 are good places to start tuning.

The LG4 spark tables are pretty bad though (like 20 degrees at full throttle), if I recall correctly. If you bump the base timing a bit (stock on LG4 was about 0), you might be in the ballpark.

Have you considered just going with TBI and the '747 (or other)?
I'm somewhat in the same boat, except with a non-chev motor, and from what I've seen, the CCC setups are pretty "bad" (resources available, hard parts, etc) even compared to the early TBI stuff.
I don't recall that it would be a hard swap, especially since 4.3L Monte Carlo's had everything you'd need IIRC.
Just a thought...it seemed far simpler to convert to TBI and then start tuning than to try and make the CCC setup work in MY application.
