Weird "noise" in ALDL data
Weird "noise" in ALDL data
I have developed some sort of weird electrical "noise" in my ALDL data. At random intervals I get a row of data that is way off-- BLM Cell of 160, temp of -40, that sort of thing. The car seems to run fine, and I can delete all those weird points in Excel and get a good log, but I wondered if anyone else has seen this.
I have used the cable off and on for a couple years with no issues. And I doubt the two are related, but the problem showed up right when I switched to TunerPro V5.
Relevant specs: '165 ECM datalogging with TunerPro V5. USB ALDL cable purchased from one of the usual online sources, though I don't remember which.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Weird "noise" in ALDL data
mine used to do that on occasion. My issue was with my computer's usb port being a bit loose. I'd wiggle it or use a "tighter" port and it went away.

Could just be you need to increase the delay between send and receive.

I had the same issue. Turned out it was something in my harness. After chasing and chasing it I Replaced it with a Painless Harness. Well worth the money, however that was just what was causing mine.
Also if you want to test it first before spend a few dollars on a harness go to Pick n Pull and grab one. I installed it super fast, I laid it on top of the engine, all the hot wires straight to bat. all the grounds straight to bat. When I saw this even worked better then the harness I had installed I new that was my issue.
Good Luck!

Re: Weird "noise" in ALDL data
you could also change(i think) 2 values in the ADX to account for the checksum at the end of the datastream. worked great for me, i removed my ~20mS delays entirely and have yet to recieve a single bad frame of data.
Re: Weird "noise" in ALDL data
Thanks for all the suggestions. Didn't have a chance to work on it over the weekend, but I'll check the connection, then go to work w/ TunerPro if that doesn't work.
