Help file in TPv5 not same as dialog window

I'm starting to set up a laptop for my project using the AutoProm via USB (APU1). My first step to using TPv5 after downloading it and registering is check the preferences. The USB driver was installed and start TP, load the 8D.xdf and AXXF.bin, verify it found the hardware, click on TOOLS/PREFERENCES/[Data Acq./Emulation] tab and view the contents. Then I clicked on HELP/Getting Started/Preferences/Data Acquisition and Emulation Options to follow the instruction. To my surprise, the two windows, from TOOLS and HELP do not match.

I searched TP forum and this forum but could not find anything explaining this. So here I am as green as a rookie can be, saying Oh!Oh!, now what? Reading other topics I deduced the Interface type should be AutoProm/MAFTPro, Com Port is selected automatically and leave the rest as default. Having said all this, is there a thread or location where a total newbie can follow once the package of goodies is opened? I even checked "The Prom Tuning Guide Book and FAQ" sticky, but one has to read a lot to pick what one needs. You wait, someone will chime in and writes it was always under my nose. That, will definitely be embarrassing.

Thanks for your patience.

Are you on Tunerpro or TUnerPro RT?

What are you trying to do? I'm just learning this myself right now, so dont get your hopes up....

I do know you need an axf file loaded as well for your setup in order to get your data stream.

Looks like Robert Saars ADX Pack 1 has an 8D Datastream file already in AXF format. It in the Moates.net file area under "Datastream Definitions"

Re: Help file in TPv5 not same as dialog window

Well, what I'm trying to do is what every noob that never modified a chip tries to do. Meaning get new equipment, download the software and files, plug everything together and start experimenting. But this issues comes up every time someone like me gets new stuff. So the first thing I do is read as many threads related to this and also read the help files. I was not clear what needs to be addressed to setup TPv5 to work with my equipment, so I went to the help menu. But as I already explained, what pops up in TPv5 help window is NOT what the actual setup window shows. I'm sure the experts are sick and tired of addressing the same issues. I must be dense, because I could not find an article that takes a noobie thru the setup, step-by-step. The moates equipment is OK, I think, because TPv5 reports it found. I think I got it, but I will not find out until I start experimenting. That will be addressed in a different thread. Thanks for the patience.

Yes. It appears the help file hasnt been updated for V5.

Hopefully my stuff will be here tomorrow and I'll have most of friday to experiment. So far, i feel pretty comfortable and I didnt crack open the help file until you pointed out the discrepancies....

I did make the mistake of downloading Tunerpro instead of TurnerPro RT at first... Talk about menus not lining up... lol....

Impaqt - I'm not as comfortable as you, since this is also my 1st DIY prom stuff. But not afraid. I read a lot and take a lot of notes before I start. I'm gonna follow you other thread and I'm also starting my own project thread soon. Some may be a repeat of what you're doing, but as long as our mentors don't mind helping, then it's good in the long run.
