Finally back to tuning GMs
After a break of about 3-4 years, I am finally back to messing with GM stuff.
My brother picked up a 90 Formula with the 305 TBI, 305 was shot, so picked up a L31 350 out of a 3500 Express. LT4 Hotcammed it and swapped on a Marine TBI and adapter plate on it. Only waiting on the headers to get it swapped into the car. Will be tuning it with either the EBL or a 93-95 TBI truck PCM. Have not decided whether to keep the 700r4 or replace it for a built up 60E from a later LT1 F-car.
Also swapped the 97 Express from the Vortec Black box ecm to the 0411 so that I can use my HPTuners on it. It has the 01-02 intake ducting, LT4 production cam in its L31 350, a set of bolt on direct replacement highflow magnaflow cats, a set of edelbrock shorty headers, and a stock muffler. Put in a Transgo HD2 shift kit not long ago. Finally may swap the gears from 3.42s to 4.10s with a posi for better acceleration in around town traffic. Its almost 6,000 lbs and needs the extra punch from a stop.
All in all, happy to be tuning GM stuff again after tuning Dodge and Nissan, GM tuning is by far ahead of the curve compared to those two.
I loved my Hemi Ram but the lack of affordable transmission tuning really hindered my luck with transmissions. Went through 5 of them before 70K. Got out of that thing and picked up a Titan. Titan has even less tuning support but luckily it loves the Hypertech can tune thats on it.
My next GM tuning project will be a Ford Galaxy with a GM ECM controlling the engine. Have not decided if it will be TBI or MPFI.
