Call for Cal Docs
Call for Cal Docs
Cal docs that made it out of GM engineering years ago have been saved, copied, stashed, and regarded as precious metal. But for the most part they haven't been released to the public. So this is a call to get some of them released. They refer to systems that in some cases are approaching 25 years old and don't have much to generate in the way of wealth for the holder. They're not going to enable people to undercut a business with huge profit, nor will they cause amatuer tuners to stop using the tools currently available. What they will do is enable or assist in cleaning up and completing disassemblies that have been floating around in various forms for years.
If you have one of these documents or if you know anyone who has one please take a moment to consider releasing it. There's an honest effort going on right now and much of the work is just covering ground that has already been covered. Make the effort to improve the hobby for all. If you're a member of another forum that may have members with access to this info, consider posting a similar request there. The more of this info we get into the public the more we can do overall.
Thanks for listening.

Re: Call for Cal Docs
No one? Sitting on this stuff is like sitting on original development documents for the Zilog Z80. It's just not in high demand like it once was.
There are two of these posted on gearhead efi right now. One is 7749 related, the other is for a 3.8 Buick non turbo application. If you download a copy for yourself, feel free to find a similar document to upload.

Not sure what you are looking for. Nearly all TBI truck ECM/PCM hacs have been released. The '7747 $42 and '7730 $8D masks has been released for decades now. Along with $32B & $6E TPI MAF code.
Then the hacs for $88, $A1, $31T, $61, $8F and so on.
There is the sunbird.dat file along with the turbo_p4 document that describes the $58 calibration and code.
There are even a bunch of CCC ECM hacs released.
I guess we are missing the calibration layout & hac for $59...
RBob.

Re: Call for Cal Docs
Yes, the turbo P4 doc along with the sunbird.dat doc. The sunbird.dat file is interesting as it lists the EPROM locations along with the GM name for the calibration parameter. Then a short description and what is the value for that calibration.
There is so much available for these old masks I'm not sure why it is an issue to think that they aren't out there.
EagleMark, you there?
RBob.

Re: Call for Cal Docs
Hi, Bob.
I'm looking for copies of the calibration parameter summaries or similar data. Yes, there are some very nice hacs that have been carefully commented and can be used without question. But there are a bunch of partials that may or may not be worth trusting and require at least a "going over" before use. Plus, of course, there are the errors that crop up from time to time in Ward's papers and end up causing errors elsewhere.
EagleMark and a few other guys are putting a bunch of effort into building a good database of Tunerpro definitions. That also means there's plenty of editing and adjusting of existing definitions. Along with that they've been cleaning up disassemblies and working to understand the code. But it's a case of well intentioned guys who don't do this for a living learning from scratch. They've got questions like any beginners should have. And there's enough good ones that I'm doing all I can to help. But over the years my focus has really narrowed to the 7749 as it applied to my cars. I'm doing what I can from memory but it's not pretty. Between the kids, work, and the pile of projects that's growing exponentially these days I can't even remember to bring my lunch with me in the morning let alone specifics about a particular variable or how a table was derived.
I realized the answer that helps the most people now and in the future is to get as much of the original data out there as possible while it's still around. I put out the 7749 info that I've had kicking around for a while. It's not much, just the cal data plus memory locations / variables. Note that this is not the sunbird.dat file (which is just a paramater output file created by Promgrammer). I linked it to the P4 document for reference. Someone else posted a very nice document with mode 4 info and a very nice description of the communications protocol used in some of the upline cars. Boy, it would have saved a bunch of time to have that before I tried getting my MEFI to communicate with that Riviera CRT and BCM. Anyway, I've posted here and on some other forums hoping to shake a few more of those old pages loose.
In addition to what's on gearhead, I know there's an XLS version of cal info for the 7148 on a GN site. I found a smaller version of the 7749 info on a syty site. There are a couple of text files on a V6 forum made from caldocs. Hopefully the list will grow in the future.
Edit: I'm going to upload my MEFI2 paper to gearhead now. It was tough to come by back in the day but today hardly anyone's playing with them.

Re: Call for Cal Docs
Yup!
We do have all the old hacks saved as we can. What I did not know existed is these CalDocs that Shannen is trying to collect.
This was all started by learning to read the disassembles. Not so much just Parameters but how Algorithm works. Which I know you had a big part of and my personal thanks as always!
What started all this was instead of using the 3 parameters marked to turn off EGR in $42 I used EGR enable temp with EGR table zeroed out for safety (for safety it should have been set to all 1.00), engine shut off when revved. So I found the actual hex number that turned EGR Enable Temp off and on, if I hadn't zeroed out the EGR table I'd have never known it was still on. It was no where near what hack said temp was and no where near AD Count Lookup table? Then looking through hacks and all old xdfs I found several conversions? Some go though the 1K pup and some are not marked for that in hack, yet all had conversions, 6 different ones so far?
Some match up perfectly to AD Counts to Coolant Temp table perfectly, some do not. So far no conversion works properly. Since TuenrPRo can't have a lookup table in XDF (or I haven't figured it out yet) side I'm not sure it will ever be accurate.
$42 AD counts is shown in 240 degrees, same as $0D, but $OD conversion only uses 192 degrees, then one for older ECM uses 152 degrees, still none are accurate to what AD table is... some close...
SO my attempt to fix EGR Enable Temp turned into more questions on Coolant Temps to Enable/Disable then answers.
