The firmware changes from V2.2 to V2.4 are worth doing the ECM update. As long as the comm link is solid the update is quick and painless. It even updates your current BINs in the ECM and flashes the updated version back in.
Note that the WUD will display the EBL ECM firmware version number. Need to be on the main WUD screen and the engine needs to be running (play back of data log also works). It is shown at the bottom of the screen.
The WUD is compatible with all of the EBL firmware versions, so no need to update the EBL ECM just to use a newer version of the WUD.
However, you shouldn't use the XDF and calibration doc from the latest release unless the EBL ECM is also updated. Take for example that a reverse lockout was added to the firmware, along with a MPH entry in the XDF to activate it.
If you stay with V2.2 of the firmware, the lockout won't work, even though it is in the XDF file.
