$6E Tuning results and update for AE & PE on 88 TPI
I have been on here for a while now with my 88 305 TPi Auto 2.73 Iroc. After tune up, new injectors, remove emissions, and Tunerpro tuning I has car running good at idle, closed loop, but power was intermniitent and knocks were there at times.
Long story short my tranny was nuked. I had it rebuilt with new torque converter and some stage 2 upgrades and WOW it is a new car, it drives in traffic shifts smooth and harder when I lay into it at WOT. It barked the tires a little from stop before but now it will spin both tires.
Onto the tuning part, I had been using the APYM mask and added fuel for the new injectors and the knock at WOT but after the tranny replacement I mapped out the knock sensor, and car really woke up and knocking wasn't an issue, I do not hear or feel detonation.
I realized though that 90% of of tweaks were because of the injector changes and tranny slip causing wild goose chases. For most part I went back to stock APYM timings and PE spark advance. I did up the fuel across the board and it seems to like it at MAF 1/2 tables (maybe the injector mappings) but the Maf 3/4 after bumps in g/s and scalers it was bogging at WOT. I had 990-1000MV at WOT.
I left the open loop stuff alone and for most part it hi idles when cold at 1500 and after warmed up settles in to 1000-900 at park and 700 in drive. Still a little hi idle sometimes when cooled down from hot but in drive runs fine. I am still trying to figure out (not vac leak) but it is related to the IAC. It sits at 75-100 ranges too long in park. once it gets down to 40-50 range it idles fine and in drive it idles at 12-20
I can share my learning and bin if anyone is interested but I think although I tweaked my scalers a little, the emissions maps, and a few PE% tweaks it runs solid. I am down to the AE mode. For the most part the 1 most critical table I have found that impacts the throttle response and fun factor is the AE % BPW table hands down.
This table has 8 cells with values from 0-3.98 inteh stock format is 0 .5 2 2 2 2 2 .5 pretty flat. After all my tunes above I narrowed this table out as trial and error testing and I found my stock car loves a peak in this table
at first I had 2 3.98 3.88 2 2 0 0 0 and the car was night and day from stop. punch it on dray pavement and it is barking and pulling away hard. at mid throttle on the hiway though the peak seemed to bog, rich then lean a little overall felt off.
so I pushed he peak to the first cell 3.98 then 1.5 2 2 2 2 2 1.5
That first peak really will smoke the tires from dead stop with even part throttle real grabby and fun around town at low mph. The sub 2 drop helps to lean out teh rich shot a little for mid throttle before it engages into the PE mode for hi way. Seems very smooth
I tried dropping the 1.5's to 1 and .5 but had to much lean spikes in the AE-PE transitions and felt the buck. So nothing less then 1.5 seemed. I had a .5 on the last cell for a while but I noticed my O2 in the AE-PE monitor had a steep 900 100 1000 swing before PE with it at 1.5 it is like 900 650 1000 so much smoother.
SO just some ideas from me and others playing with AE. Also the AE % TPS is 2nd critical table. I have this at 12.5 12.5 16.41 20.71 slight bump from stock. but helped with hard tire grabbing starts. Any higher and I had some bog.
Now I am finally tweaking the MAF 3-4 77-110 lv8 ranges closer to stock and the card is realy pulling into AE and keeps pulling more through PE and MAF 4 tables. It feels really good.
My O2 use to just flat line (after the initial lean peak when I peg the gas) right to 1008MV and sit at 990 through the runs. It felt ok, but very lazy and bog off line.
I now have the o2 in MAF 4 sitting at 945-955 range and night and day. My MAF 3 into Maf 4 still sits like 980-960 and tapes into 945-955 so a little slow.
I will tweak this a little more and I think I am golden for a stock setup it feels like it has to be strong 14sec card now.
My idle cruise is all normal into the MAF 3 126-128 across the board I like it. It does idle rich in closed loop though when at light like 118-122 but if I try a small tweak to maf1 it goes lean the other way into 129. Hard to fine tune for now it works though. form low MPH or start I am at 123 pegs into 128 and sits there through PE and on hiway at 70mph it will fluctuate with small pedal touches from 126-132 I dont think lean at 70mph and no load is bad good for gas mileage.
I hope this helps someone and more comments or thoughts let me know.
I have 1 question: I have 2.73 and my car feels lazy like around 20mph roll and I punch it. I assume this is the gears now. Off idle it barks and pulls for what I feel is good for 2.73 v8. in Tuner pro I see 6.5-7.5 sec 0-60 estimates. and On hiway at 50-60mph and i Step on gas the car has such long legs it kicks downs and just keeps pulling nicely and sounds great hit 80mph in no time, I like it. But when I am turning a corner or just roling out at 20mph and 1700 rpm and I Step on it it is soft, my tunes above to AE/PE helped a lot no bog but the car feels like it should kick down like form dead start but wont, it pulls and then once in 2500 range it takes off.
so any ideas or tips, is this TCC? or just 2.73
