SBC OBD2 Tuning With TunerPro - Anyone successfully done it / have a tutorial?
Hey Guys,
I've got a SBC 400 HSR with AFR heads and XE270HR cam with 4L60E about to drop into my 85 Firebird, and I need to have a tune file ready for engine startup.
I used a Holden Commodore VXII Calais LS1 harness and 0411PCM, along with the EFI-connection bits to make it happen.
I bought an AVT-852 cable thinking it was the cheapest option, but was unaware there wasn't a cheaper alternative software than EFILive or HPtuners.
After some help from the guys here I found TunerPro is basically the only option to edit .BIN files, and Dimented's LS1 Flash tool to flash them to the PCM.
A couple of the XDF options make sense to me, VATs, Cylinder displacement etc, but a lot is foreign, and there appears to be a fair few options missing that are in EFILive, like o2 sensor enabling, knock sensor setup injector flow rates and so on.
First question is: Has anyone used this tuning hardware/software combo to successfully tune a car?
Second, Does anyone have a tutorial for this combo?
Thirdly, How well does the PCM read the sensors and accommodate for changes say from a LS1 5.3/5.7L motor to a SBC 6.6L. I'm not talking performance, so much as engine safety(limp mode). Another way of putting it, is how much variation does the base tune allow for before it has to be customized to the engine component changes.
Lastly I read an article about the HSR shootoff, and by changing intakes, they basically just changed fuel pressure and timing to dial it in. How possible is it to use these two paramters to bring the base tune closer to the motor's requirments without editing fuel and spark maps?
Extra lastly :P
Is there a closer base tun eI could use (in .BIN format) that would be close to my setup?
