need computer help(in a bad way)

not in my car, but I'm running out of places to look. I know there are LINUX/UNIX people on this board. Now I need your help. I've tried to install Mandrake Linux 8.1 on my laptop(Prostar 2253 w/ 1gHz PIII). The installation went fine, it's the display settings that are the problem. I have a 14.1" TFT, under windows I was running 1024x768 @ 32bit. That setting doesn't work at all under Linux. I'm at a loss here, I've gone to 800x600, and the "test screen" was fine. When I click "yes" in the "does the screen appear correctly", the whole thing frezees and the screen pixelates to hell. Loading KDE(from a boot disk, LiLo isn't functioning.. it's loaded, but it isn't working????) I get 1/3 of a screen... Any suggestions? I have 24 access to the computer labs at school, if anything comes to mind, please post or e-mail me at ajm6860@exchange.uta.edu

thanks

Anthony
