I have an '89 305 5 speed MAF TPI system and a Actron Scantron scantool. The only reading I can seem to find regarding anything to do with the timing is the ESC counter. I understand this reads everytime spark knock is detected and counts to 255 and then resets? Is timing being pulled everytime that counter goes up? I mean in a 1/4 mile run I probably get 80+ increase in counts almost regardless where my timing is.

Do I need to get a new/different scantool or can you not access the spark timing on this/MAF systems?
