Fuel pump not turning off after burning first chip
Fuel pump not turning off after burning first chip
...???...
..."Browser not turning on after burning new thread"...???...
Seriously, the fuel pump is pumping continuously??? Is it flooding out/filling the cylinders???
...Extraordinary...No message, and the Forum says this is not a reply...
Somethin' wrong here somewhere...

lol think the server burped. Lets try this again
I just burned my first chip, all I did was kill the vats since I have been having trouble with it. Well first thing I did was put the chip in backwards,
when I turn on the ignition the fan runs engine light stays on, but the fuel pump primes and stops as normal. Oops! I reorient the chip properly
Turn the ignition on and all is normal except the fuel pump primes and just continues to run, not filling cylinders it just circulates the gas through the return. So I swap back to the original chip and it does the same thing, fuel pump keeps on running. Pull the chip out hit the ignition, no chip so goes into limp mode but at least the pump primes and stops. I'm pretty sure the backwards chip didn't fry anything.
I check the schematics and the fuel pump is controlled by an oil pressure switch. I'm assuming when there is oil pressure, the switch keeps it running. So is this just some stupid coincidence, the switch went bad and stays on, or is something with the ECM toast? Odd the way it primes normal and stops in limp home but keeps on running in normal operation.
Any input before I go out and get a new switch tomorrow? And just where the hell is it? I'm assuming it's a separate unit and not the regular oil pressure sender.

Ok I did more digging around and it seems that my scanner wont link to the car. If I try jumping the terminals on the aldl to put it in diagnostic mode I get nothing no check engine light. When I turn on the key as normal the fuel pump runs and I still get no check engine light. If I pull the chip to force limp mode the check engine lights, fan runs etc so I know the light aint just out on the engine light. Either way it wont start. I'm guessing the computer is dead. Is there anything I could have done that killed it? All I did was pull the memcal, put in craig moates adaptor and a new chip, old chip does the same thing. Was it just the computers time to go, horrible coincidence?

Well just for everyones info, I finally discovered what the problem was. Bad prom. I'm guessing it caught a bit of a static discharge at some point, I pulled it from the memcal to do a dump so I could start having a look around and kill the vats. It must have been toast before I did the read because neither the original chip or any the the copies I made worked. I found a stock bin on the net and burned it and behold she runs like a top now, no problems.
Guess I can just chalk this one up to experience, at least I learned quite a bit about diagnosing problems with the computer.
Anyone know just how sensitive the eproms are to static and such?
