Computer ECM question

I recently replaced my engine with AFR heads and a slightly larger cam. After the install, the car seemed sluggish for about 4 days, then Boom! It woke up? I figured that was becase the ECM was learning the new mods? I recently blew a head gasket and now the car seems sluggish. I have only been dirving the car for two days and wondering if this is becasue the ECM is re learning the new mods? Any Ideas what's up? Vacume is good, around 15-17, fuel psi is set at 50psi, timming is at 6deg. advanced.

Heheheh, I've heard that engines run their best right before they blow up (or break or lose a lot of power). My 305 ran great last fall (2000), with new best times set at the dragstrip, but by winter/spring it had lost about 40 hp both at the strip and on the dyno.

On a serious note, I don't think it'd take 4 days for the computer to learn the new mods, unless it didn't get sufficiently warmed up the first 3 days. Once you're in closed loop (which could take up to 5-7 minutes depending on the start-up temp), it's learning immediately and settling into the necessary BLM adjustments in several to a dozen seconds (for each BLM cell that you're driving in).

Hmm, after i installed the new engine, the car ran ok and seemed like it was plugged up for the first few days. After a week with the new engine, I was gettin on to the freeway and Booom it woke up! jsut llike that? Now, since I have tore back into the motor to fix a head gasket and the car is put back together, it runs like it did the first week after the new motor install? Just wondering if the computer needs to be reset? I know that the computers normally adjust right NOW. So I have no idea why the lack of power? I hope it will wake up as it did a few months ago after the engine install

Get us some quality logged data from your engine and we might be able to shed some more light on the situation.

Laterzzzz,
Matt
