Help!!!!

Hey guys I've got a 93' LT1 which requires the same programing as you guys.

I've got a Pocket programer and tunercat. oh and i'm using an 28 pin header as an adapter. (like the tutorial on this website)

Well somehow i've toasted 3 memcals in the past week.

I'm not sure as to how or why, but you put the memcal in the car and you get a solid SES light and no diagnostics communtication. It seems to run okay sorta but speedo doesn't work either.

Whats wrong with my memcals? the first one lasted 11 erasures/programs. the last two only lasted 2 times.

I'm not really overcooking my eproms, and i'm being careful to ground myself. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?

Leaving as much of the legs as possible cut the eprom out of one of your dead memcals, and solder a ZIF socket in it's place so you cna use eproms instead of memcals.

Off hand sounds like the wrong programming voltage.

I'm using 12.5v on the PP2 what am I supposed to use?

Have any of you guys seen flaky PCMs that don't like certian memcals?

I'm constantly touching door **** and the back of my computer case to try to ground me.

The problem with eproms is they have a limited life. Or more exactly, they can only be exposed to UV light so much. I found by carefully managing the erasing time (long enogh to properly re-program but not so long to "over erase") would maximize the number "re-writes", but I never got more than 50 reburns.

The best thing to do is remove the eprom and install a ZIF socket as Bruce suggests and then go to the AT29C256 Flash Prom. Flash Proms have a significantly longer re-write cycle. Depending on temp etc, it can be anywhere from 1,000 - 10,000 times.

Flash Proms are the only way to go. My UV eraser is now only for a "conversation" piece.
