Make sure you use the AT29C256 Flash proms. Craig Moates ZIF to ecm adapter works great also. I wish I would have started long ago its much easyier than I thought it would be to burn proms.

I would not buy the UV eraser, instead I use Flash Prom's that will programme directly from the PP. the AT29C256 is a direct replacement for the 27C256 EEPROM installed in your current memcal, I have done this to several memcals and they all work great. Mike

ok, will the AT29C256 plug into the carrier that came with my hypertech chip??? the prom comes right loose from it so I thought maybe I could just use it instead of a ZIF?? So you can just program right over a flash prom without erasing it then??? Sorry I am really new at this, guess I need to do a lot of homework first.

Yes, you can do that. I think you may wish to also look at installing a ZIF onto your Hypertech and then use a Flash Prom. Over time, you may find that pulling and re-inserting the Memcal onto the connector on the ECM can result in damage due to wear (or accident) to the Memcal, connector or the motherboard itself on the ECM.

Using a ZIF socket and then just pulling the prom will only result in accidentally bending/breaking a pin. A damaged eprom/flash prom is a lot cheaper than a damaged Memcal and/or ECM.
