Two interesting questions...

1. I have been tuning my setup in about 30*-40* weather and had it running ~12.4sec consistantly, now that the weather got warmer ~65* the car has slowed down ~.5secs! I plan on waiting for warmer weather to really get into tuning it again, but do you think there will always be swings like this with weather. I obviously know weather conditions greatly influence performance, but I thought this was an unusually high delta to see. Just asking for some thoughts.

2. I have been using Craigs software to log my data. I amost always experience *freezing* of data after a few minutes of logging. I have to shut the car off, unplug everything from under the dash and then plug it all back in and restart computer, ect to get it to respond again. Sometimes it will work again for a long time and other times it does it repeatedly until finally it works. I am using a IBM Thinkpad with it in dos mode, booted off floppy with autoexe.bat file pointing to craigs files on hard drive so it starts automatically. Any suggestions on fixing this anoying problem would be greatly appreciated. I have also disabled every thing in windows such a IR port, other coms ports, etc. Thanks all for your help.

I think you can tune around that kind of a drastic power loss.... I mean the loss of the cooler, denser, more oxygen rich air will tend to slow the car down some - but really shouldn't do it that much!

As for the freezing deal, I have problems with that as well. I chased my tail for a long time and have come to the conclusion that my laptop battery is just a complete POS and after about 15 minutes of scanning and data logging, the battery drops power so low that it cannot stay linked with the car's ECM. If I recharge the battery and go back out with it hooked up it runs flawlessly for another 15 or so minutes and proceeds to 'lock up' again..... Quite frustrating to me for a long time. I plan on setting up a small power inverter to run the laptop while it is in the car to solidify my theory and hopefully remedy it as well .

Good Luck!
Matt

your not alone on loosing signal. I too have power adapter so I know it isnt the battery or loss of power. Its a pain sometimes, but for freeware you cant beat it. If there is a way to correct I would sure like to know myself, but Im happy with what I have.

I occasionally log the entire ride into work or back, 30-40 minutes, using Craig's software. Friday, I logged the entire IM240 emissions test, including a long wait with the engine off. I use a Dell model POS for logging.

I think something in your laptop is going to powersaving mode.

I actually got to use mine today for most of my runs. I usually have everything on and ready to roll after I turn the key to "on" position (after this I usually hook up aldl cable and load up moates software and receive the signal) then I start engine with software already in use. Today however, I started engine, then plugged the power and aldl cable, then started software. It worked like a charm and never missed a beat.
Good Luck

Thanks I will try that..

Also, I am not in any way complaining about the software, its great stuff and I appreciate the effort. I am nearly positive it is something or a sequence of events I am doing that is the problem, that is why I asked. Thanks all, I will try a different way.
