TPI to CARB What to keep and remove
TPI to CARB What to keep and remove
I need to know what computer stuff I need to keep and what I don't. I am doing away with my 305 TPI and I am putting a 73 350 rocket in my 1987 TA. I still want to use my stock gauges, and I am keeping my electric fuel pump. Some help would be greatly appreciated!

Just leave the entire wiring harness intact. Tuck the injector wires, and un-used sensor wires back behind the engine block or something. Leave all the sensors in the block where they are and reinstall the oil pressure sender etc into your new manifold (I believe that is the one in the back of the intake manifold. I don't think there were any other sensors in the manifold that run guages (I can't even remember if the oil pressure one is on the intake or not...) I don't recall if the water temperature sending unit is in the intake, or if that is the temp sensor for the computer. You'll have to double check. Goal is to ditch sensors that only sent info to the computer, and keep the ones that run the dash guages. When done correctly (at least on up to 87s) all the dash guages will work just fine without the computer. No biggie at all. Only other thing you have to do is run the old tach leads to your new distrib, and wire up your fuel pump so it will get power without the computer/oil pressure safety switch. I just ran 12v ignition source to one wire on the fuel pump relay (mine is wire on the relay that is green with white stripe, yours may be different, refer to wiring diagram) to power it when the key is on. Worked fine. I'm running the Mallory AFPR by the way.
