82 transam tuneport swapping questions
ok..ive recently aquired a complete 86 tpi system off of a 1986 z28 305 TPI car..came with the complete wiring harness of the ENTIRE car.my questions are..when i get the TPI installed..what am i going to do about a check engine light..so i know when somethings screwing up on me? can i just wire it into my stock 82 gauge cluster somehow? so that when it throws a code..a light comes on or something so that i know somethings gone **** up?

You can pull the wire out of the old SES lamp driver, and feed it directly from the ECM for an SES light. I think a wire from the ALDL goes to the SES too.
Your dash plugs should be similar to mine...
which pretty much means you'll directly connect A, E, F, H, K, M, N, and P, but have to figure out the others w/ the factory 86 Camaro wiring diagrams.
You'll be running a new wire to the fuel tank (get a tank & sending unit from an EFI F) but re-using the old ground there, and the rest is fuzzy, but you did very well getting a complete factory setup; that's the way to do it.

hey jmd..i noticed in your sig you have a mechanical clutch'd world class t-5..i too have a world class t-5 in my 82 transam..which was stock 305 4spd stick shiftcar..and has the stock mechanical z bar/pushrod clutch setup. my question is..how does your tranny shift..hows the clutch engage..disengage..smoothly? im having a bit of problems with mine..it seems to pop 3/4 the way down..but i beleive i have the wrong pressure plate and disc..any info you can lend as to your specs and stuff? it would be greatly apreciated..thanks

Hey Mark.
Everything in my linkage is g-body except the lower pushrod (Chevelle) and the fork/bellhousing/trans. is f-body.
I had to tweak the lower arm of the z-bar because it went right into the O2 of the hooker headers (PN 2050) but it seems to clear fine now
I really haven't put many miles on it since October when I put the mechanical stuff in w/ a new Ram clutch, but the "hitting O2" didn't allow full throwout so it's been "annoying" but we'll do some driving this week and see how it works. I expect it will be fine.
I used to have the hydraulic 84-92 f-body setup and it was sweet.
My friend Bob is doing a Tremec into his Monte and Centerforce told him that their 84-92 PP is different than the one for an 83 (which was mechanical) so there may be some reason for your trouble....
