Code 53, no start

Yeah, I know, I checked the archives, but still have questions...

Following a steering column swap, I get the code and no start--only code 53...

It is entirely possible that I messed up the ignition cylinder VATS wires.

My question to you is this: what type of resistor(s) do you use in the VATS bypass? I have tried several times by linking various resistors together and can never get the perfect resistance--i.e. off by 50 ohms or so--thus I am assuming that is why the damn bypass doesn't work.

Please give me an insight if you can.
