Mine just went bad. First it just started running like crap, couldn't figure it out, didn't want to idle, surging. Then it started popping the MAF code so I started watching the numbers. Normally showing 9-11 g/sec at idle, new MAF shows 8 g/sec at idle and all is WELL again. Wells MAF SU-145.
g/sec is "grams per second". It's measured with a diagnostic scantool that plugs into the ALDL port under the dash. Scantools cost anywhere from $100-$500 for DIY mechanics, and more for professional models (up to a couple grand). There are, however, several free/semi-free programs you can download onto your computer or laptop, and build a cable from a few dollars in parts and some work. They can do everything the more costly scanners can, and some can do much, much more. Check out the DIY PROM board, and search for Craig Moates' scan software, and JoBy's WinALDL scan software. These are in invaluable tool for diagnosing and tuning any EFI thirdgen.
