Low Temp Fan Switch
Ok guys, here's what i want ideally:
I would like to know what switch to purchase that will allow me to turn on my electric cooling fans via a switch in the car. Also, just incase the switch breaks, or i am too lazy to install a switch, what automatic fan switch should i buy? I live in NYC, so in the summers it is HOT and in the winter it is cold. What temp switch and thermostat should i get?

Assuming your fan(s) are factory (and still wired as such, you can you any switch you like. The switch will only supply another ground source to activate the relay which requires very little power.
I put the 200° (off 185°) JET fan switch in my 'bird with a 180° robert shaw t-stat, it was roughly $40. Some find that to lofty a price and have found OEM switches from other cars that are cooler and about $10 cheaper. Do a search for 'fan switches' to find p/n's. Others like to run 160° t-stats.. I guess that's a matter of preferance though.

Nice car Convert, I have pretty much the exact same one. 87 Iroc Z28 with the 350 TPI, I found the same thing as you, it is suprizingly fast stock. I was able to beat a brand new trans am ws6 3 lights in a row untill he was finaly convinced that I was faster. And then he didnt belive that my car was bone stock. My favorite though was taking a Ford Lighting off the line and for about 100 feet untill his boost kicked in.
Anyways, I put the jet performance fan switch and termostat in my car and it seems to work great. Im trying to get my temp gauge to work though, I know that acording to the service manual it is a black and yellow wire, but I have yet to find them anywere. Who ever had the car before me wired the sensor to the a/c harness (morons) Any thing you could tell me being that you have the same car would be very helpfull
Thanks

PonyKiller, do you know anything about certain 87 Roc's that were built by outsourced speedshops??? I have been trying to find some stuff on the web, but can't. I brought my car to have an oil change (i hate doing that myself... nasty!!!!), and the dude at the shop said i had an IROC SE. Whatever the hell that means. He said because of my 'rams horn' manifolds, that's how he knew. He said there were only a few of them produced in the Van Nuys plant before they closed down, and the motors were built by a speed shop in Colorado. Apparantly, mine is one of those cars (if this guy wasn't full of ****). Unfortuantly, i recently added headers, and tossed my Rams Horn manifolds. Maybe it would've been worth something if complete. Anyway, if this is all true, that would explain my GN kills, and that i find this car faster than my LT1 vette. Supposedly, if our cars are one of these LE (limited edition) models, the rpo codes have some obscure code in them. I am still checking mine out. Now, here is the cool part... if in fact the shop owner was not full of it, our motors are 4 bolt mains, with 'pink' connecting rods and make 310 hp. Interesting. I know that my friends Roc is a dog compared to mine, and he also has a tpi 350, but is a 92 which is supposed to be faster than the 87's.

The NAPA stores stock two different aux fan switches. One kicks at the stock temp of 238deg, the other if I remember is around 215. MUCH cheaper than the Jet switch, they run about $19.
