Wiring in a manual fan switch
Wiring in a manual fan switch
Gents,
Before you flame me, I have spent a fair amount of time researching the issues around wiring in a manually activated fan switch. But I am still confused. (I don't understand most of the posts that relate to this issue!)
This is what I want to achieve :
1. Install a 12v LED that shows when the fan is activated in normal circumstances.
2. Install a manually activated switch that allows me to run the fan as I wish (and activates the LED)
3. Retain the normal fan operation if the manual switch is off.
To help me achieve this I would like you to tell me exactly which wires I need to splice into, etc...
We're talking an '89 305 RS LO3, single fan. It runs just fine, but I'd like the manual intervention if required.

Just go to an electronic store and buy a lighted switch. It has 2 inputs (12V and Ground) and 1 output (ground). Im not real familiar w/ LO3s so I cant really tell you how to do it. If you run a 12V source off of the fuse block, make sure to put it on the "Radio" outlet.
i've recently done this (except for the LED, I'd love to do that though)
what I done was just run a wire from the "fan" spot on the fuse box, then run that to the switch, then run a wire from the other side of the switch to the wire going to the fan motor... it is a black wire and has a red stripe... it is in a piece of plastic conduit so you'll have to cut that....
its really quite simple....
when I flip the switch the fan comes on, with the switch in the off possition it works just like stock....

now, about the LED... I don't know much about them.... looks to me like you could loop a wire from the side of the switch that runs to the fan to itself... like splice it in at the switch and then 4 inches out on the wire splice it back in, making a loop... just put the LED in that loop and when power is applied to that side of the switch it should come on.....
this is what i'm assuming, I don't really know.... I plan to try it, I just havn't gotten around to it yet....
i know the switch part works, but the LED part i'm not sure of....
i hope it helps
