Coverting from an SI to a CS alt. Help!!

I am wanting to convert from my old SI style alt to a newer CS style. When i go to an autoparts store, what should i ask for? The later Firebirds that came with CS alts arent interchangeable with the old style ones cause of the mounting flanges (i know, i've tried. Bought one from pep boys and it didnt fit ). A need an alt that has one of the flanges thats for the pivot bolt. The other flange should be directly across from it and is for the bolt that goes in the slotted bracket. I am wanted a alt that has the most amps avail cause of my stereo. Thanks

What do SI & CS stand for Standard Int'l & Canadian Standard? What year is your car?
The alts up through '86 were the "large body" type with a V belt drive. In '87 GM switched to the smaller body type with a serpentine belt drive, but mounted in the same location (pass side) - the other accys were still on V belts. In '88 GM switched to the single serpentine setup - the alt was moved to the driver's side & has a different geometry than the previous year models.

Si is the series of alternator pre-87 on our cars.CS is post 87. SI are more commonly known as "1 wire" alternators. A hint for you. our(autozone) part numbers have clocking in the end. (1342 6 11) 6 aclock mounting with 11 aclock thread. our stores have picture applicatio guides with case diameter, clocking, and pulley design. ask to see that and go from there. we also sell the connector to convert it.
