Speedo not working

I pulled the speedo from my 86' T/A and will be putting it into my 89' Bird. The speedo out of the T/A doesn't work. Is it more likely there is a problem other than the instrument cluster or shouyld I do something to it? Everything under the hood looks good?

The speedo is cable driven & does not require power from the cluster. If you can see the speedo cable turning (after removing the cluster) when the car is moving, and the cable is long enough to engage with the speedo drive shaft, then the speedo itself has a problem. It can be removed from the cluster for repair.

Is the speedo digital, or a standard analog pointer type?
