Power door locks not working

Hi

I'm having some problems with my power door locks. I have a clifford alarm which controls the locks, so when I switch on the ignition the doors lock and switch off the doors unlock.

Currently when I switch on the ignition the power door locks don't lock, although they do clunk as if they were going to lock the doors.

Also using the buttons to control the door locks, the lock button doesn't lock either.

So, is this a problem with the alarm system or some other electrical problem ?

Can I use the keys to override the power door locks ?

What's the best way to diagnose this problem.

Thanks

Geoff

This is a common problem. Take off your door panels and hose the door lock solenoids and linkages with WD40 and work the lock manually a few times. Then try to use the power lock button. Keep working the locks and lubing them down to they work good.

Hi Justins86bird

So does the key use a separate mechanism to lock the doors ?

Just a follow up, I can use the keys to lock and uplock the doors and they work fine.

Using the power locks, the unlock button, does indeed unlock the doors, but using the lock button it fails to lock using either the driver or passenger lock buttons.

Can some body explain how the powerlocks work ?

If they make the "clunking" noise when the buttons are pressed, then the mechanisms need lube, as Justin said, above. The electromagnets are not strong enough to move the lever if the mechanism gets gunked up.
