20 amp fuse popping during install
20 amp fuse popping during install
Hi,
My horn / power locks / dome light dies on me. Saw the fuse was blown. Got new fuses. Tried 2 so far. As soon as I stick it in, zap, it blows.
I guess the system is shorting out SOMEWHERE, the question is where ? Where would this circuit be getting shorted, most likely ?
This fuse is supposed to be for glove box, cigar lighter, hatchback lid, horn, interior lights, power antenna, door locks, radio, ccc. (radio and ccc still work, for some reason)
Thanks. I just don't want to rip everything apart, since maybe someone can point me to the most likely suspect here, or give me advice on tracking it down !!!
Thanks,
John
My car did the same thing, I think its fuse #20, a yellow 20 amp one, which is labeled accessory...did it for a long time too, turned out after finally bringing it to the dealer after one place said it was the alarm, and the alarm place said it was the cd changer, and the audio place said it was the car.....it turned out the be the lighter as well. Still dont' have an original and that was in 95 or so with 9K miles on the car.

I agree with Jim up above about it being the lighter. i've had that same problem with that same fuse, and i know my lighter is bad. anytime i would push it in, that fuse would pop. all i've done was keep on trying to get the fuse in, maybe try kinda fast, or disconnect your battery and change it that way.

Yes, it was the lighter !
Whew! I had imagined myself tearing the car apart, with a little pile of 20 amp fuses next to me, and smoke rising from various parts of the car.
The lighter just had some ashes in it, which I cleaned out somewhat. I left the lighter OUT of its socket too, and the fuse went back in without blowing. I'm just going to leave the lighter out, since I don't smoke !!
What a relief ! (Oh, yeah, no mechanic bill either)
Thanks !!
